I was lost 'til you were found, and I never knew how-ow far dow-own
I was fallin' before I reached, the bottom
Well I was cold and you were fire, and I never knew how-ow the pyre
Could be burnin' on the e-edge, of the ice field
And now the chilly California wi-i-ind, is blowin' down our bodies agai-ai-ain
And we're sinkin', deeper and deeper in the chilly Califor-ornia sand
Oh I know you belo-ong, inside my achin' heart
And can't you see my faded le-evis burstin' apart
And don't you hear me cry-yin', oh ba-a-abe, don't go
And don't you hear me screa-eamin' - How was I to know
I'm in the middle of no-owhere, near the end of the li-ine
But there's a border to somewhere waitin', and there's a tank full of ti-ime
Oh give me just another moment, to see the light of the day
And take me to another land where, I don't have to stay
And I'm gonna nee-eed somebody to make me fee-eel like you do
And I will receive somebody with open ar-arms, open eye-eyes
Open up the sky, let the planet that I love shine throu-ough
For cryin' out loud, you know I love you
For cryin' out loud, you know I love you
For cryin' out loud, you know I love... you
I was damned and you were saved, and I never knew how enslaved
I was kneelin' in the chai-ains of my master
I could laugh, ah but you could cry, and I never knew just how high
I was flyin' oh with you, right above me
And now the chilly California wi-i-ind, is blowin' down our bodies agai-ai-ain
And we're sinkin', deeper and deeper in the chilly Califor-ornia sand
Oh I know, you belong, inside my achin' heart
And can't you see my faded le-evis burstin' apar-art
And don't you hear me cry-yin', oh ba-a-abe don't go
And don't you hear me screa-eamin' - How was I to know...
I'm in the middle of no-owhere, near the end of the li-ine
But there's a border to somewhere wai-aitin' and there's a tank full of time
Oh give me just another moment, to see the light of the day
And take me to another land where-ere, I don't have to stay
And I'm gonna need somebody to make me fee-eel like you do
And I will receive somebody with open ar-arms, open eye-eyes
Open up the skies, let the planet that I love shine throu-ough
For cryin' out loud, you know I love you
For cryin' out loud, you know I love you
Woh, for cryin' out loud, you know that I love you
For cryin' out loud, you know I lo-ove you
For takin' in the rain, when I'm feelin' so dry
For givin' me the answers, when I'm askin' you why-y
And my oh my, for that, I thank you
For takin' in the sun, when I'm feelin' so cold
For givin' me a child, when my body is old
And don't you know, for that, I nee-eed you
For comin' to my room when you know I'm alone
For findin' me a highway, for drivin' me ho-ome
And you gotta know, for that, I serve you
For pullin' me away when I'm startin' to fall
For revvin' me up when I'm startin' to stall
And all in all, for that, I want you
For takin' and for givin' and for playin' the game
For prayin' for my future in the days that remain
Oh-oh Lor-ord, for that I ho-old you
Oh but mo-ost of all, For cryin' out loud, for that, I love you
Woh but most of all, For cryin' out loud, for that I love you
Oh but most of all, For cryin' out loud, for that, I love you
When you're cryin' ou-out lou-oud, you know I lo-ove... you...

My wife says every time she hears "Bat Out of Hell" she remembers cleaning the house with her mom as she blasted this album on the old turntable.
I bought this album not so much because of this story but mostly because of an essay by Chuck Klosterman (Sex, Drugs, and Coco Puffs), but now when I hear this album that's all I can think about. Meat Loaf is one of the most important lyricists of all time. Every note, every word hits home. So much in fact that it tugs at the very essence of nostalgia.
